Subtle energy is energy circulating within and around our bodies that is not yet easy to measure. Subtle energies include, but are not limited to, the aura and chakras which are composed of light vibrations. The therapies listed on this page deal primarily with this subtle light energy and are therefore more difficult to qualify. While weeding through the vast amount of alternative health resources may seem a bit overwhelming, it is also comforting to know that many people are open to meeting the needs of individuals as whole beings. Subtle energy modalities are in line with the holistic philosophy of treating the whole person: mind, body, emotion, and spirit, versus treating symptoms. The following are some subtle energy therapies I have found to have merit. I share them for the benefit you may gain from them as complementary tools not replacements for medical care needed from licensed professionals.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is pretty common place now particularly with large companies making high quality oils readily available (DoTerra, Young Living, Melaleuca). I love to diffuse oils in my home, rub them on my feet, and carry them in my purse at all times. I have used them for over 20 years and regularly for 15.
Bio Essence Energy is a system of energy work created by Jeff Allen which works to develop a cooperative relationship between the Bio-electrical/physical energy of the body and mind, and the spiritual energy or essence. This unique technique utilizes specially created energy packets which are charged with specific energy vibrations. Practitioners use these energy packets to balance energy flow, harmonize body organs, clear emotional blockages, and establish system equilibrium. Practitioners use intuitive questioning to guide clients to the most relevant issues related to an ailment. The emotions supporting a problem are identified, released, and replaced with positive statements on conscious and subconscious levels. My experience with this modality has been very positive. I was surprised to discover how effective the energy packets were for enhancing the energetic experience, or my ability to sense the flow of energy. Note- This company also focuses on energy work for animals.
Crystal Therapy
Healing with crystals is an ancient human practice. Long before we could measure any energy vibrations in these seemingly lifeless geological forms, our ancestors used them for medicinal or protective purposes, and for rituals. This is partly because humans are attracted to pretty shiny things and partly because ancient peoples were attuned to their natural environment. They could readily sense energy emanating from all parts of their environment: animals, plants, and the earth. As part of the earth, rocks and minerals build up over millennia and acquire various seen and unseen properties. For instance, each stone or crystal type has a unique geometric crystalline structure as well as weight, color, etc. Each type of stone is created with definitive physical characteristics allowing them to be used as unique substances for the transference of energy. This has been verified, at least with quartz crystals, which are used in much of our modern technological equipment, from radios to computers. Quartz crystals are so fundamental to our technological age that we have developed methods for growing crystals to accommodate the great demand for their conducting properties. Crystals today are being more widely used as an alternative healing practice, or in conjunction with other alternative practices. Crystal healers place a grid or framework of stones and crystals on and around a client. This framework aligns the energies moving in and around the person's body and is a very relaxing experience. The practitioner needs to be knowledgeable about the subtle energies of the body, the properties of the crystals, and how these elements interact. Personally, I enjoy crystals for the beauty they offer in my home and as jewelry. They have a peaceful calming effect on people, animals and environments. I have used them effectively in my energy work and find that people go into deeper relaxed states when crystals are used.

Polarity Therapy
Polarity Therapy began with Dr. Randolph Stone in the 1950's. He is said to have gathered insights from ancient healing practices as well as the modern medical research of his time. Further research and advancement of polarity therapy practices has been done by his student's and continues today with the American Polarity Therapy Association. Polarity Therapist work with the subtle energy systems of the body such as the chakras. The premise of the therapy is that all energy forms flow when there is a proper balance between positive and negative polarities. The proper balance creates repulsion and attraction and thus a smooth flow of energy. Practitioners use various hand positions to connect and balance the flows of energy in their clients bodies. Polarity Therapy incorporates more than touch. A specific polarity diet and exercises are also part of the therapy.
Reiki
Reiki is an energy therapy with roots in ancient cultures. In the nineteenth century, a Japanese monk named Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered this tradition from Tibet and initiated the contemporary Reiki movement. As Reiki has been introduced to the West, many different forms have been established. There is the current Japanese Reiki practiced in Japan which is somewhat different than the many western forms: Usui or Usui/Tibetan, Usui Reiki Shiki Ryoho, Karuna Reiki, and Gedai Reiki Ho, to name a few. The word Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. Each form of Reiki channels this universal life force. Many cultures have names for, and healing practices which use, the energy that supports all life. For instance, the Chinese call the Universal Life Force Chi and Hindus call it Prana. Christians often associate it with light or the Light of Christ. On a scientific level, we understand that humans are energetic beings. We create and emanate energy, beginning at the cellular level. When our bodies stop electrically, they die. Reiki energy therapy helps balance people’s personal energy systems and assists in removing blockages to the natural flow of energy. During a Reiki session, the practitioner places her hands on, or near, specific body energy centers. This energy work has the potential to promote health on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. Reiki is very gentle and has a calming, peaceful effect on the mind and body. Additionally, it will enhance the positive effects of other healing modalities.
RET
Rapid Eye Therapy, or RET, was developed by Dr. Ranae Johnson in the late 1980's. Using an eye directing tool, RET practitioners guide eye movements and blinking to stimulate a rapid eye movement. This rapid eye movement, or REM, is experienced during deep sleep. With this technique, a conscious replication of REM sleep is achieved and stressful memories can be released. As alpha/theta brain wave states are achieved, clients can reprogram core beliefs and heal emotional issues. An allopathic model of treatment similar to RET, called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing , was developed for use in psychotherapy by Dr. Shapairo. EMDR has a strong research base, but approaches the patient from the traditional counseling perspective. In contrast, RET techniques are founded on holistic principles and intended to restore people to spiritual wholeness. Thus, the methods are similar, but the approaches different. My personal experiences with RET have been very positive. Sessions I have participated in have helped me work on deep core issues, bringing things to my conscious mind that I had not considered. In recalling repressed feelings and events and changing my attitudes about those events, current life issues have been healed.

Theta Healing
Theta Healing is a practice of calling upon the creator of all that is to perform instant healings on whatever level is needed by a person. In 1995, the practice was in developed and continues to be taught by Vianna Stibal. There are very specific steps for a practitioner to learn. I was told by one practitioner that, "It is like prayer on steroids". A unique aspect of this technique is the use of a theta brain wave state by the facilitator for the transference of healing to the client. The power of thoughts and intentions, both of the practitioner and the client, are paramount in the success of this practice.

Yoga and Meditation
Yoga and meditation help me balance my energies and remove mental or physical blocks to the flow of my physical and spiritual energy. Every morning I include yoga and meditation in my routine. I have always begun my day with prayer, which has brought me great satisfaction and comfort. During a prayer, I communicate my inner thoughts, desires and gratitude to God, and often listen for responses and inspiration. Having worked on this relationship for years, it is very natural to me. At times in my life, I have felt blocks and frustrations, yet I have continued with an inner assurance that the Lord is listening and aware of me. Prayer has continued to be a learning experience and a blessing in my life, which in fact led me to incorporate yoga and meditation into my personal practices. Yoga helps get my body going every morning, and get the stiffness out of my bones and muscles. Meditation is a time to improve the listening qualities I have developed through prayer. Beyond that, meditation has helped me reach points of stillness where I can fully relax and be free of any inner dialogue. This point of complete stillness (mental, physical, emotional and spiritual) has brought an abundance of peace into my life, not only in the moment of meditation, but throughout each day. I strongly suggest mediation to anyone, particularly if you want to become more sensitive to the energies flowing within and around you. Below you will find a widget which shows yoga poses and explains more about yoga.
